Roman Reigns Links Podcaster’s ‘Overrated’ Claim To AEW Ties: ‘Are There People Watching That Guy’

Roman Reigns has responded to Conrad Thompson after months of the podcaster calling him overrated. Reigns addressed the criticism during an appearance on Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe, saying Thompson is using his name to get views and hinting that his opinion is shaped by who he is connected to. Sharpe asked Reigns whether he was bothered by Thompson’s repeated comments.“No, because he, I mean, the truth is, are there a lot of people watching that guy’s show? So, you’re gonna say stuff,” Reigns said. “You already know I’m a metric mover, that type of stuff. They know I give views and all that stuff. So, it’s fine. I mean, it is what it is.”Reigns then pointed to Thompson’s background.“If you look at the guy’s background, you already know where his support system… All you got to do is scroll a little bit, and you see who he’s a fan of and stuff like that, and who he’s connected to,” Reigns said. “But no, if they want to use my name to get views, that’s the industry right now.”Reigns did not name AEW, but Thompson has been linked to the company in the past. His Starrcast fan conventions have been held alongside AEW events, and he co-hosts podcasts with AEW personalities Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone. Thompson is also married to Megan Fliehr, the daughter of Ric Flair, who has worked with AEW. Thompson denied having an official deal with AEW when the company launched in 2019 and has said his work with the company comes from his friendships with people there.Roman Reigns Has the Numbers on His SideThompson stated his criticism of Reigns in August on 83 Weeks, the podcast he hosts with Eric Bischoff.“I think Roman Reigns is probably the most overrated main eventer in WWE history,” Thompson said.He also called Reigns an “industry plant” and repeated his comments on later episodes, including the September 25 episode of Something to Wrestle.“It’s also true that never have I ever seen a Roman Reigns T-shirt out in the wild. Not once,” Thompson said.Thompson went further last week during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, explaining why he feels WWE built Reigns into a star by force.“They forced him to be on top and to always win over and over and over,” Thompson said. “I give you the longest entrance. I let you go on last. You’re always the main event, and you always win. Well, I think that formula would work for pretty much anybody.”He also said during that appearance, “AEW is making wrestling for fans, and I think WWE is making wrestling for investors.”Reigns’ answer makes sense. Thompson is entitled to his opinion, but calling Reigns the most overrated main eventer in WWE history is a hard argument to make. Reigns held the Universal Championship for more than 1,300 days, headlined multiple WrestleMania events, and has been one of the company’s biggest draws for years. His point about being a “metric mover” is backed up by how often his segments and interviews draw atten
