Rutgers fans were furious after watching their team suffer one of the biggest upsets in recent college football history, and one of them went viral for sharing his feelings about the stunning loss.In the hours after the Scarlet Knights fell 37-21 to UMass — a program that went 0-12 in 2025, had lost 23 consecutive games against FBS opponents and had never beaten a power conference team — on Thursday night, a fan identified as “Gus” called intoThe Zach Gelb Show on WFAN and shared the frustration he and most of his fellow fans felt.“I‘m a 20-year season ticket holder,” he told Gelb. “I’ve traveled all across the country and followed this team. I have tickets next week to go to Boston College for the Red Bandana game. I have an Airbnb booked for the Wisconsin game to go to Chicago to watch (former Rutgers running back Kyle Monangai) play on Sunday night. I’m done. I’m canceling everything. It’s done“And it’s not emotional. Taking the emotion out of it as best I can. I’m done. What I saw tonight was the most deplorable, despicable, horrible adjustments on defense, from being the worst team in football last year defensively to what they did this year and now what they did tonight. I’m done. I don’t know what else to say. A 20-year season ticket holder. I’m done.“Tomorrow, I’m calling the athletic director (Keli Zinn). My opinion means nothing, but, you know, I’m done. And I’m sorry. I want to root for a hometown team. I want to root for a New Jersey team. Like you said, we have a great fan base. We have a great rooting section in my section, people that I’ve known for years. We’re done.”Gus was asked by Gelb whether he felt head coach Greg Schiano — the greatest coach in Rutgers football history who is now on unstable ground in the midst of the seventh season of his second stint with the program — should be fired.“Absolutely,” Gus said. “Should be fired tomorrow. Sorry, the whole staff. The whole staff.”MORE BY BRIAN FONSECABig Ten coach uses Rutgers as cautionary tale after UMass upset: ‘Respect for the opponent’Sep. 5, 2026, 3:45 p.m.Rutgers hoops lands top-50 prospect in 1 of biggest recruiting coups of Steve Pikiell eraSep. 4, 2026, 7:22 p.m.The fan then made a reference to the postgame firework show that went on as scheduled despite the disastrous result.“Fireworks?
