Marlee Beacom closed out her 2026 spring athletic season in the same fashion as her fall campaign, earning the title of Ashtabula County Girls Runner of the Year. The soon-to-be Saint John senior played a pivotal role in revitalizing the school’s track and field program this season, helping push a dormant program back into competition and relevance. Beacom capped the spring by finishing 14th in the Division V 3200 state race, clocking 11:41.72, a testament to her endurance and progression across multiple events.
Throughout the season, Beacom competed in the 800, 1600, and 3200 open distances, as well as the 4×400 and 4×800 relays, routinely earning top finishes and contributing to Saint John’s overall success. Her performance earned her the county’s top girls’ running honor, a selection made by the area coaches who recognize the impact of her consistency, versatility, and leadership. “Receiving Track Runner of the Year is such a privilege, especially alongside the cross country runner of the year,” Beacom said. “These sports have taught me so much over the years, and I’ve grown to love every part of them—the competition, the challenges, and the people who make them special.”
Heralds coach Josh Forsythe praised Beacom for embodying the Saint John track program. He noted that she continually encourages and supports her teammates’ achievements, carries the distinction of an all-academic Ohio athlete, and stands as a leader capable of guiding the team as one of the county’s best runners. “Marlee is an excellent example of what’s to come for a young, fresh team emerging from the county,” Forsythe commented. “It’s a great end to the season, and there are many more years to come.”
This season marked the resumption of Saint John’s track program after more than a decade of dormancy. Beacom, who had been named county cross country athlete of the year after the fall season, is poised to help Saint John reach the state meet again in back-to-back years. In the 2025 state tournament at Fortress Obetz & Memorial Park near Columbus, she posted an 18:45.40 for eighth place in the Division IV race, underscoring her ability to compete at a high level on postseason stages. “As I head into my final cross country and track seasons, I’m excited to see what I can accomplish,” she said. “My goal is not only to compete well at the conference and county levels but also to make strong postseason runs and place well when it matters most.”
Beacom is determined to make the most of her senior year. “I’m ready to keep learning and to keep working hard,” she said. “I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my teammates, coaches, family, and school, and I hope to make them proud throughout my last season.” Beacom’s cross country coach, Jeremy Dunn, noted how much her confidence has grown over the past year. He explained that injuries had sidelined her for periods, stalling development, but her confidence surged throughout last season and carried into track. “She is entering this season with strong goals,” Dunn added, emphasizing her continued determination and drive. Beacom’s trajectory suggests a bright future for Saint John’s track and field, with a senior season anticipated to showcase her talent, leadership, and continued improvement.
