Saints GM Mickey Loomis shares update on Chris Olave’s extension talks

By admin — In News — July 28, 2026

The New Orleans Saints and standout wide receiver Chris Olave both appear interested in completing a long-term extension. Still, there isn’t an agreement, and no deal is imminent. General manager Mickey Loomis confirmed in a press conference Tuesday that negotiations are still ongoing.“We’re having a lot of discussions. We’re just not there yet,” Loomis said. “We’re hopeful… We want to get it done. Chris and his agents — I know they want to get it done.”There is still work to do, but the tone seems positive, though Loomis wouldn’t place the negotiations in an optimistic or pessimistic category. Olave reported for training camp and has continued to handle the situation professionally while his agents, Drew and Jason Rosenhaus, continue to negotiate with the team.“Look, it’s got to be right for both parties,” Loomis added. “He was certainly here today. Chris has been as enthusiastic and optimistic as anyone. So, I really appreciate the way he’s conducted himself — and that’s not just this year; it’s every year with Chris.”The Saints selected Olave at pick No. 11 in the 2022 NFL Draft, and he has since established himself as the team’s top receiver. The 26-year-old WR caught 100 passes for 1,163 yards receiving and nine touchdowns in what was a breakout 2025 campaign. He was recognized on the All-Pro second team for the first time in his career. Olave’s fifth-year option was exercised, keeping him under contract through the 2026 season, giving both sides time, but getting an extension done would get rid of a major question. No deal appears close, but the Saints want Olave, Olave’s camp wants an extension, and talks continue. This article originally appeared on Saints Wire: Saints GM Mickey Loomis shares update on Chris Olave’s extension talks
