​The New Orleans Saints have again made headlines for a significant roster addition. Per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter the Saints have added former Atlanta Falcons linebacker Deion Jones.Jones is a veteran player in every sense having already played for four NFL teams prior to signing with the Saints. The 31-year-old linebacker will now return to his home state to play professionally.Jones played at LSU before heading to the Falcons franchise for the first five years of his career. He then went on to play for the Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.Jones’ statistics took a noticeable dip in 2022 with the Cleveland Browns and haven’t returned since. Still, his veteran presence could prove critical to his new team’s success. Falcons’ Wire’s Matt Urben discussed the Saints’ latest big move in free agency. Here’s what Urben had to write about the pickup and its significance.”The former second-round pick’s career was hindered by injuries, but Jones was a dynamic inside linebacker for the Falcons early in his career. Atlanta made the Super Bowl in Jones’ rookie season and won a playoff game in his sophomore campaign.Jones racked up 652 tackles (428 solo), 11 interceptions, 8.5 sacks and 44 passes defended over six seasons before signing with the Cleveland Browns in 2022.According to Schefter, Jones is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Saints. Even if not, the aforementioned veteran presence could be what his team needs to be successful.The Saints defense has plenty of pieces in place to succeed as is. Jones may compliment what was already a dominant defense a season ago.The move signals that the New Orleans Saints franchise is not content to stand pat and do the bare minimum in roster building.
