​Twins outfielder Austin Martin began a minor league rehab assignment with St. Paul in a 5-4 loss to Syracuse on Tuesday night at CHS Field.Martin served as the Saints’ designated hitter, going 1 for 4 with a fifth-inning RBI single that scored Tristan Gray with the team’s first run of the game.The Mets had scored four runs off St. Paul starter Ricky Castro (3-3, 5.85 ERA) by that point. Castro was tagged for four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out one batter.The Saints chipped away at the Mets’ advantage, with outfielder Matt Wallner and first baseman Aaron Sabato both scoring on a pair of sixth-inning groundouts to make the score 4-3.Second baseman Cody Morissette, who hit one of the RBI grounders, drew the hosts level at 4-4 two frames later with an RBI double that once again plated Wallner.A victorious rally was not in the cards, however. The Mets bounced back to score what became the game-winning tally in the top of the ninth off reliever Julian Merryweather (0-2, 1.69), who surrendered one hit, one walk, and one finalizing tally.With little gumption to battle back one last time, St. Paul (77-61) went quietly in the bottom of the ninth to open its six-game series against Syracuse (73-65) with a loss.The two teams return to CHS Field Wednesday night for a 6:37 p.m. first pitch.
