Saints QB Tyler Shough takes Ice Bucket Challenge in support of ALS community

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

Earlier this week, New Orleans Saints legend Steve Gleason and New Orleans author Brian Jeansonne joined the Ice Bucket Challenge to demonstrate their support for former NFL running back Chris Johnson, who, like Gleason and Jeansonne, is battling ALS. Gleason then challenged Saints quarterback Tyler Shough, along with others, to participate, and Shough quickly accepted after seeing Gleason and Jeansonne’s posts on Instagram.
On Thursday afternoon, Shough posted a video on his social media accounts with his dog, Murphy, as he accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge. In the clip, Shough gave a shout-out to Gleason for nominating him and for paying the challenge forward to himself. He also named his Saints teammates Juwan Johnson and Cam Jordan, as well as head coach Kellen Moore, as those he would like to see take part next.
The Ice Bucket Challenge, which initially began in 2014, has enjoyed a notable revival, driven in part by Chris Johnson after he revealed his own ALS diagnosis earlier this year. Johnson disclosed his condition publicly last month, bringing renewed attention to the cause and inspiring fans and athletes alike to participate and contribute to ALS research and support.
If you would like to join Tyler Shough, Steve Gleason, and many others in showing support for the ALS community—whether by taking the challenge or making a donation—please visit The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge | The ALS Association for more information and to contribute.
