​The New Orleans Saints have potential heading into the preseason. Much of the excitement revolves around a new look wide receiver room led by Chris Olave and new rookie receiver Jordyn Tyson.Tyson has turned heads in training camp but may are approaching his season with a wait-and-see approach. He will have to prove he can get it done when the lights come on for the season.Seldom does a receiver room assume the pressure of a season. However, in many ways it feels the success of the offense is on the wide receivers. After all, second year quarterback Tyler Shough got it done without much help in the way of receivers other than Olave last year.Doug Joubert of New Orleans Saints on SI discussed the wide receiver room as a position to watch before the preseason opener. Here’s what Joubert wrote on the unit. “The Saints are projected to keep a half-dozen wide outs on their 53-man roster. We believe the top three positions for wide out are a done deal: Chris Olave, Jordyn Tyson, and Devaughn Vele. The fourth slot is up for grabs with rookie-who’s-made-an-early-splash Barion Brown, third-year vet Kevin Austin Jr, and 4th round pick Bryce Lance. Things cleared up considerably, albeit in a way that caught most off-guard, when Ja’Lynn Polk hung up the cleats after three seasons for personal reasons.As is typical at the beginning of every training camp and Fall practice we’ve covered, the Saints defense has had the edge early on. Part of that is because the run game is being emphasized so heavily in the first few days. There are more and more passing plays being implemented each session. We have seen Kool-Aid McKinstry own Olave on a few routes. Meanwhile, we’ve seen some flashes from Tyson, Brown, and Vele.This could be the most exciting room to watch in the weeks to come. If everyone steps into their role, the Saints could end up with a better than average receiver room.Olave sets the ceiling high, so we’re not concerned about the No. 1 receiver spot. Everything else needs to fall into place.If the Saints have a reliable No. 2 option, DeVaughn Vele could reasonably become an above average to good No. 3 receiver. He showed as much coming in last season from Denver.If the Saints have a No. 2 receiver in Jordyn Tyson, New Orleans has a shot to become a dynamic offense that can carry the team when called upon.
