The New Orleans Saints’ Week 1 opponent is dealing with a significant off-the-field situation involving one of its standout defensive backs. Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold was arrested in Florida in connection with a February robbery and kidnapping case in Tampa, according to a statement released Wednesday night by the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office.
The statement said the office will file charges against Arnold, who is facing multiple felony charges that carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison. The State Attorney’s Office also said it plans to file a pretrial detention motion to argue that Arnold remain behind bars until trial. Arnold surrendered to authorities at Orient Road Jail on Wednesday night, and the 23-year-old is scheduled to make his first appearance in court on Thursday afternoon.

Arnold has denied the allegations through his representation. Denise White, the CEO of EAG Sports Management, said in a statement that “there is no credible evidence” linking Arnold to the allegations. The Lions, in a statement to ESPN, said they are “aware of the legal situation” and “will not comment at this time out of respect for the ongoing legal process.”
“Terrion Arnold categorically denies any involvement in the matters underlying the allegations made against him and maintains his innocence,” White said in the statement. “There is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations. Instead, the government appears to be relying on testimony from multiple convicted felons who have admitted their own involvement and may have substantial incentives to shift blame in an effort to lessen their sentences.”
For the Saints, it’s important to note that they open the 2026 regular season against Detroit at Ford Field on Sept. 13. Arnold was expected to be part of a Lions secondary preparing for the Saints offense led by Tyler Shough, Chris Olave, Travis Etienne Jr., and a rebuilt supporting cast. There has been no announced NFL discipline or roster decision involving Arnold, a former first-round pick — but his availability for the start of the season is now unclear.
Arnold finished the 2025 season with 31 total tackles and an interception in eight games. He suffered a shoulder injury in late November that forced him to miss the remainder of the season. If they were forced to move forward without Arnold in the lineup, the Lions would be projected to roll out a cornerback lineup of D.J. Reed and likely either Rock Ya-Sin or fifth-round rookie Keith Abney II.

The criminal case makes this a situation to monitor as the offseason moves toward training camp. Detroit has been, and still projects to be one of the NFC’s most talented teams, but they now have a major unresolved situation surrounding one of their best defensive players.
