The question of, to borrow the title of a 1980s television sitcom, “Who’s the boss,” continues to hang over the Los Angeles Lakers as they approach their regular-season opener this coming Wednesday. In August, majority owner Mark Walter agreed to sell his stake in the team to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger, and days later, all the Buss siblings, except for Jeanie Buss, the team’s governor, decided to sell their minority share to Kushner and Iger.Buss is embroiled in a nasty legal fight with her siblings, but in the meantime, the sale of Walter’s share to Kushner and Iger looks like it will become official just weeks from now. Dave McMenamin of ESPN wrote in a recent article that Kushner and Iger are “expected to take control of the franchise following an NBA board of governors vote in November.”Kushner, 41, is a billionaire who has founded multiple companies, including Thrive Capital, a venture capital firm, and Oscar Health, a health insurance start-up company. Iger spent many years as the CEO of the Walt Disney Company before stepping down in March of this year.It was previously expected that the two could officially close their purchase and become co-owners of the Lakers as soon as September. The NBA board of governors did meet in September, but no vote on this sale was held. This article originally appeared on Lakers Wire: Sale of Lakers to Josh Kushner, Bob Iger could officially happen soon
