There’s crying in baseball. Always has been, always will be | Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports It’s mid-summer and you’re leaving a gathering with friends to put your 5-year-old to bed. The temperature and weather is perfect in North Seattle and the sun is just barely threatening to begin setting. You realize the Mariners game is probably still going, so you fumble on your car’s touchscreen to get to the AM radio setting, a process that always seems about 5 steps too long. Before you know anything about the game, your brain instantly recognizes the warm timbre of Rick Rizzs’s voice as he excitedly tells you that Andrés Muñoz is on the mound for the top of the ninth. Muñoz proceeds to mow down the opposition much to Uncle Rico’s delight and your thoughts begin to swirl a bit given how perfectly lovely this little moment is. The first thought is the sobering one about how next season when you turn the radio on during a similar moment, you won’t get the instant serotonin hit of hearing Rick Rizzs’s voice. You brush this aside for now as the swirling leads to thinking about postseason moments, who you shared those times with, and who hasn’t been able to be there for them. The continued shock of how many incredible Mariners moments that have occurred since November 2021 when LL lost Tim, our resident law-dawg and constant source of support and joy. The guilt for not yet solidifying plans for Tim’s softball game creeps in. Then, the drive is over and it’s time to be present and attentive for bedtime. The processing goes on hold, as it does so often.Days later, the thoughts persist and you realize there is no time like the present to solidify plans for some festive and comically bad softbaLL with friends and strangers alike.Save The Date!Saturday, September 20Time TBD, but 9:30 to 10 AM is most likely so we can go watch the day’s other sportsLocation TBD (expect an update around August 20 because that’s the earliest I can reserve a field ahead of time with Seattle Parks and Rec)Post-SoftbaLL hangout and Mariners watch party at Growler Guys!Join us at the usual spot, LL’s home away from home, aka THE GROWLER GUYS on Lake City Way for beverages, food, and we can all watch the Mariners take on the Colorado Rockies at 12:10 PM and then the Seahawks play the Cardinals at 1:25 PM in Arizona, so it’s just gonna be a big ol’ Seattle sports day!More on our friend TimIf you’re new to the community, make sure you read Isabelle’s eulogy/LL highlight reel for Tim. In addition to being a loving father and husband, a skilled lawyer, and a devout Mariners fan, he was undeniably, devastatingly funny in an often unsuspecting kind of way. We miss him so dang much.Tim’s Favorite CharitiesOnce again, I am sharing Tim’s favorite non profits and as always, it’s completely optional. In 2022, I asked Tim’s wife what we could do if people wanted to make donations of some kind in Tim’s memory if they didn’t get a chance to do so whe
