For the first time in four years, Scottie Scheffler will miss the weekend at a PGA Tour event, as he failed to make the cut at the Scottish Open on Friday. The stumble ends one of the longest streaks of consecutive made cuts in PGA Tour history. Scheffler opened the tournament with a solid two-under par round on Thursday, but he slumped to a 2-over performance on Friday, highlighted by four bogeys, leaving him at even par for the event and well outside the projected cut line.
With the cut typically reserved for the top 65 players and ties at the Scottish Open, Scheffler’s Friday score leaves him on the wrong side of the mark. The event’s cut line is expected to settle at 2-under, and Scheffler’s late-round trouble robs him of a chance to play through the weekend.
This marks the first missed cut for Scheffler at a PGA Tour event since 2022, when he shot 1-under at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which wasn’t enough to advance. Since that missed cut, Scheffler had compiled an extraordinary stretch of 78 consecutive made cuts, the longest active streak on the PGA Tour and one of the most notable runs in the history of the sport. At 78 straight made cuts, Scheffler sits fifth on the all-time list of consecutive made cuts, behind records set by Tiger Woods (142), Byron Nelson (113), Jack Nicklaus (105), and Hale Irwin (86).
The timing of the end of Scheffler’s streak is particularly unfortunate as he heads into next week’s British Open, where he enters as the defending champion. With the missed cut, the longest active streak now shifts to Matt Fitzpatrick, who has made 28 straight cuts, taking over as the player with the current longest uninterrupted run.
As Scheffler shifts focus to the major championship in the United Kingdom, questions will arise about how he rebounds from this setback and whether he can recapture his form to defend the Open title. The Scottish Open result adds another chapter to Scheffler’s impressive career arc, highlighting both his consistency and the occasional vulnerability that accompanies the game’s elite players.
