​For the first time in four years, Scottie Scheffler will not play the weekend at a PGA Tour event. He failed to make the cut at the Scottish Open on Friday, snapping one of the longest active streaks in PGA Tour history. However, a 2-over Friday, driven by four bogeys, pulled him back to even par for the tournament and, more importantly, out of contention to reach the weekend.
That Friday setback was decisive, as the cut at the Scottish Open is reserved for the top 65 players and ties. With his Friday score, Scheffler found himself well outside the group that would advance. The current cut line for the event is projected to be around two-under par, so Scheffler’s deficit was significant enough to end his run before the weekend.
This marks the first time since 2022 that Scheffler has failed to make the cut in a PGA Tour event. Scheffler’s 78 consecutive made cuts places him fifth on the all-time list of consecutive made cuts. The five players ahead of him on the all-time list are: Tiger Woods, 142 (1998–2005); Byron Nelson, 113 (1941–1948); Jack Nicklaus, 105 (1970–1976); Hale Irwin, 86 (1975–1978); and Scottie Scheffler, 78 (2022–2026). The end of Scheffler’s streak comes at what figures to be a challenging moment, just ahead of next week’s Open Championship in Britain, where Scheffler will enter as the defending champion.
With the failure to make the cut, the longest active streak now shifts to Matt Fitzpatrick, who has made 28 straight cuts. The landscape of the PGA Tour regarding consistency has shifted, and all eyes will be on whether Scheffler can rebound at the British Open and re-establish his historic run of weekend appearances.
