Sean O’Malley unsure of potential Mario Bautista fight: ‘It’s weird’

Sean O’Malley has a weird feeling now seeing his former teammate Mario Bautista join him in the title picture at bantamweight.Although happy for Bautista (18-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC), the former champion O’Malley (20-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) recognizes they could potentially cross paths as the two hunt for the UFC bantamweight title. It makes for an awkward and uncomfortable situation, given their past training and friendship at The MMA Lab in Arizona.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement”I know, I know, it’s tricky. It’s weird,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel. “Yeah, I don’t know. We’ll have to cross that path when it comes. Look at Terrance (McKinney) and Bobby (Green).”Bautista picked up a win over Cory Sandhagen this past Saturday on the main card of UFC 329. The victory put Bautista on a two-fight winning streak since losing to Umar Nurmagomedov in October and made him 10-1 in his past 11 UFC bouts.Like many, O’Malley was impressed with what he saw from Bautista at UFC 329.”It was beautiful,” O’Malley said. “I said, ‘Alright, Cory. Here’s your shot. You called me out. Go out there and beat Mario and you get your shot at the ‘Suga’ show.’ He didn’t (win). I picked Mario by decision. I know how good Mario is. I know how good Cory is. It was an interesting fight. It was going to be hard to beat Cory in a decision, and Mario went out there, and it was back and forth. Mario definitely won that fight.”This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: Sean O’Malley unsure of potential Mario Bautista fight: ‘It’s weird’
