The Los Angeles Angels fell 6-2 to the Seattle Mariners in the opener of their series in Seattle, despite an early lead and a strong start from Zach Neto. Neto got the Angels on the board with a leadoff double and later doubled again in the third to push the score to 2-0, as Denzer Guzman came through with a hard-ground-ball single that drove Neto home and started the scoring. Guzman then showed his growing potential as another bright spot for the Angels, but the offense stalled after the early surge.
Cole Taylor got Seattle on the board with a solo homer in the bottom of the third, cutting the Angels’ lead to 2-1. The turning point came in the fourth when Guzman mishandled a ground ball at third base, loading the bases for Cal Raleigh. Raleigh’s RBI single plated two unearned runs, giving Seattle a 3-2 edge, and the Mariners never looked back. Seattle added three more runs in the sixth, including a second homer from Cole Young, to push the lead to 6-2 and seal the win.
On the mound, Ryan Johnson was in his second start of the rotation for the Angels. He allowed four hits and three runs, only one earned, over his five-inning outing while striking out three. Johnson’s line reflected the shaky support from the defense and the Angels’ thin pitching depth, as Guzman’s fourth-inning error contributed to the damage. Despite the early offense from Neto and the potential Guzman showed, the Angels could not sustain their momentum, and Seattle’s offense responded with power and timely hits to secure the victory.
