​The LSU Tigers are not making any friends in the collegiate athletics world these days, but now the contentiousness is starting to reach a boiling point that could apparently see the Tigers booted out of the SEC.The saga of the Tigers and their approach to bringing former professionals to multiple sports has been widely panned by former players, media members, fans and others alike. The approach that LSU has made this season could backfire even if they do get the eligibility case to go their way.On3’s Ross Dellenger reported on Monday afternoon that SEC officials have come down hard against what the Tigers are doing and have gone so far as to threaten LSU with expulsion from the conference if those players touch the field. They have also brought up boycotting games, probation and a federal legal challenge, per the report.One thing has become clear about this season: the Tigers are certainly viewed as the villains of college football. They have embraced the role with wide open arms. Inside the facility, there is a sign that reads, “If you want to win at the highest level, you have to become a villain in someone else’s story.”LSU will continue to push to add these players as they move through the court system until they receive the final word not to move forward from the SEC. Lane Kiffin has already stated that they will comply with the court order on Thursday.There is certainly value in adding former professionals, even if they were cut, to a collegiate team. Still, at some point, the team has to ask when it stops being worth it. The first game of the year is just a few days away, and the only thing anyone is talking about is these former pros trying to join the team.The Tigers had already been prepared not to have them on their roster and had a great squad prepared. These are nice compliments, but not completely game-changing. Wright at tight end with Trey’Dez Green, though, could be very dangerous.The risk just doesn’t seem worth the reward for the football team, though they’ll clearly never say no to anything that’ll make them slightly better.It makes a bit more sense for the basketball team and Will Wade to be a bit more invested, given that this is how Wade banked on building his roster. Without any former professionals, LSU is going to have an even tougher time fielding a squad.In just a few days, this could finally come to an end. Should the players actually get the order from the court to play, however, it seems like it will drag on for a while.
