The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Florida State right-handed pitcher Bryson Moore in the seventh round, pick 198, of the 2026 Major League Draft. Moore becomes the third Florida State pitcher to hear his name called and the fifth Seminole overall to be selected this year. His draft slot carries a value of $317,100.00.
Moore served as the Seminoles’ third member of the starting rotation and their Sunday starter, finishing the season with a 6-2 record and a 3.86 ERA. He totaled 65 strikeouts against 25 walks and limited opposing hitters to a .230 batting average. His repertoire features three pitches: a fastball in the low 90s, a change-up at 84-85 mph, and a curveball.
In the 2025 season, Moore set a career high with seven strikeouts in a game against Northern Illinois, and he matched that strikeout total in victories over No. 10 Virginia and Wake Forest.
Earlier in his career, Moore was a standout prep star in Virginia, ranked as the state’s No. 2 right-hander and No. 8 overall player. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school, excelling not only on the mound but also in football and basketball.
Meanwhile, Major League Baseball has now called coach Link Jarrett’s entire 2026 starting rotation to the next level. Wes Mendes, who earned ACC Pitcher of the Year honors this past season, was selected in the second round by the Houston Astros on Saturday. On Sunday, Trey Beard received a call from the Miami Marlins, who took him with the 147th pick in the fifth round. First baseman Myles Bailey will bring his power bat to Chicago with the Cubs, who selected Bailey with the No. 75 pick in the second round. Outfielder Brayden Dowd, known for his consistency in the field and at the plate, will head west to Arizona to play for the Diamondbacks, who chose Dowd with the No. 88 pick in the third round.
Jarrett may have also seen two high school commitments head to the majors. Pitching prospect Kaden Waechter was taken No. 55 overall in the second round by the San Francisco Giants, a slot valued at $1,763,000.00, a sum that could be difficult for Waechter to pass up. Additionally, shortstop Landon Thome went No. 34 to the Chicago White Sox, with a slot value of $2,897,400.00. Thome is the son of MLB Hall of Famer Jim Thome.
