Serena Williams Eyes US Open After Wimbledon  Loss And Injury

Legendary sports star Serena Williams has left fans uncertain about her future in professional tennis after a recent setback on the court. Following a disappointing loss and a physical injury at Wimbledon, questions have begun to swirl about whether she might retire again. Serena had recently made a triumphant return to competitive play after a four-year hiatus, but she was forced to withdraw from a doubles match with her elder sister Venus Williams due to the injury. Mirrorpix / MEGA Serena remains determined to continue her professional tennis career and plans to compete in the upcoming tournament in New York, according to Rennae Stubbs, one of her official coaches.
This update comes in the wake of Williams’s defeat in her first singles match since the 2022 season, a grueling three-set contest against Maya Joint during which she injured her right knee midway through the match. The coach explained that the immediate priority is to get the athlete back on the practice court as soon as she is physically able to swing a racket. “Her intention is to keep playing: the U.S. Open as well,” Stubbs told AP News. He also expressed cautious optimism that the recovery would take only a few weeks, allowing her to return to the court and start hitting balls again as soon as possible. “As long as physically she can go – and I’m hoping in a few weeks that’s the case – to get her back on the court and hitting balls,” the coach added. The next major tournament’s main singles draw is scheduled to begin on August 30.
Serena officially withdrew from the highly anticipated doubles match with Venus because the knee injury prevented her from continuing. She was set to head out for a practice session but announced her withdrawal shortly before the warm-up. The BBC reported that the athlete took to social media to convey her heartbreak over the postponement, telling fans that sharing the court with her sister would have meant the world to her. She said she had done everything possible to prepare her body for competition, but her joint simply would not cooperate. Alongside her message, Serena posted photos showing medical bandages around her left knee and images of the medical equipment used to treat the injury.
Beyond the physical challenge, Williams has also been the subject of speculation about her friendship with Meghan Markle, who largely stayed away from Wimbledon this year. Public chatter intensified after Williams posted a video on social media promoting items from the Duchess’s lifestyle brand, sparking discussions about a potential rift. As she navigates this latest setback, fans and observers alike are watching closely to see how she will balance her competitive drive with the realities of recovery and the demands of a sport she has defined for decades.
