Serie A defender is dreaming of playing for Liverpool

Liverpool’s right side has become a live issue once more, and there’s little point trying to dress it up as anything else. Replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold has always been a tall order, but the club has not yet solved the puzzle. Conor Bradley has shown flashes of potential, yet availability and consistency remain concerns. Jeremie Frimpong brings talent, pace and attacking thrust, though he looks most comfortable higher up the pitch rather than as a traditional right-back.
That is why the latest chatter around Anan Khalaili demands attention. Marco Barzaghi reported that Inter moved decisively to sign the player, and there is already talk that Liverpool could be the club he dreams of serving in the future. The details are intriguing, even if the timing is not ideal for Liverpool. Inter have completed the deal, and for now that closes the door. Khalaili joins Inter Milan for around €25m plus bonuses, roughly £21m before add-ons, after making a strong impression with Union SG. He is a right-sided player with clear athletic tools, direct running and the aggressive approach that suits modern wing-back football. He can carry the ball into space, take on defenders one-on-one and press with intensity. In systems that demand verticality and constant movement, he makes sense.
The key line in Barzaghi’s report was explicit: “Inter were extremely determined to sign Anan. They wanted him at all costs,” he told his YouTube audience. That doesn’t read like a club casually adding depth; it reads like a club targeting a starter for the future. The report then outlined how the transfer nearly collapsed before the Inter head coach stepped in. “We went through a terrible week. The transfer came very close to collapsing, but then Cristian Chivu took the initiative and called Anan personally.” That kind of intervention matters. Managers don’t usually make those calls unless they see a specific role for the player.
The Liverpool link exists because the player reportedly views Anfield as a dream destination. Barzaghi added that he believes Anan can continue to improve and perhaps one day fulfil his childhood dream of playing for Liverpool. It’s an unusual thing to broadcast during a transfer pitch, but it also signals that there is already awareness of the player’s long-term ambition.
From Liverpool’s vantage point, this is more of a name to monitor than a move to expect. Khalaili is 21, still developing, and now stepping into a major tactical and competitive arena at Inter Milan. If he thrives in Serie A, especially in a demanding wide role, interest around him will only grow. Liverpool, under manager Andoni Iraola, will require intensity, repeated sprints and defensive reliability from the flanks. Khalaili appears to possess several of those traits. The problem is simple: Liverpool need answers sooner rather than later, and Inter have acted first. So, for now, this becomes a scouting dossier rather than a transfer likelihood.
