HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Among 20 peers, Central’s Maddy Shirley and Memorial’s Cohen Havill earned top honors as the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference’s male and female athletes of the year. Each SIAC member school submitted one boy and one girl for the awards, and all nominees were invited to the 17th annual SIAC Celebration of Champions, where the winners were revealed.
The field of nominees included Luke Curtis (Bosse), Greenlee Gist (Bosse), Carter Bobe (Castle), Emma Bruggenschmidt (Castle), Zackary Robards (Central), Micah Robling (Harrison), Gabby Sutton (Harrison), Jack Levin (Jasper), Ella Clark (Jasper), Max Miller (Mater Dei), Morgan Wannemuehler (Mater Dei), Emma Teague (Memorial), Brooks Carroll (North), De’Janay Layne (North), AJ Coates (Reitz), Bailey Hape (Reitz), Mac McCormick (Vincennes), and Madelaine Mitchell (Vincennes).
Shirley will continue her basketball career at the University of Southern Indiana, but she leaves Central with a lasting legacy. The Bears will retire her jersey next spring in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the program. Havill, on the other hand, is headed to Loyola University Chicago to play college soccer with the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Loyola team, where he will be remembered as a member of the 2024 state championship squad that helped place the Tigers in the school’s history books.
