LAS VEGAS — Responsibilities were always high for Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey, but with the addition of Jaylen Brown, one has to wonder what coach Nick Nurse and Co. expect from the 2-time All-Star.Coming off a season in which he averaged 28.3 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 46.2% from the floor and 36.7% from deep, Maxey took another step forward. He was terrific in all facets of the game and did a wonderful job of leading this group and making sure they were ready to go on a nightly basis.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAs Nurse and the Sixers prepare for what’s next, there are some expectations for Maxey leading this group.”I would say his priorities are keeping it pretty simple, and the the things for me is he obviously has the jets to the rim,” Nurse started on Maxey. “He obviously has the deep 3. I tell you guys this a lot, I’ll say it again. He’s got so much more room for improvement in the middle of that. Those two great things he does. There’s so much. I mean, I see it. I just want to, again, it’s something that needs to be kind of developed or used or whatever, or there’s more quantity during games that I just think it’s there.”Maxey attempted 21.4 shots per game and 8.6 attempts from 3-point range per game in 2025-26. One has to believe the overall field goal attempts will drop with the addition of Brown, the presence of a healthy Joel Embiid, and the emergence of VJ Edgecombe, but Maxey has to be a major part of the offense. Nurse and the coaching staff will make sure he is ready for what’s to come.”It’s an improvement area where he can go play one-on-one from 15, 17, 13, 12 feet and get a shot off and nail it,” Nurse added. “He’s got that in his game. He’s just so good at the other stuff. He doesn’t hardly ever get put in those positions, but I think it’s an area of growth for him, and the rest of it, I just want him to keep it simple. Do what he’s been doing. Continue to grow as a leader, continue to get better defensively, which he has made great strides over the last two years. Continue to grow in just his spirit and having fun out there, being that energy guy for the team.”This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: Sixers coach Nick Nurse lays out his priorities for star Tyrese Maxey
