LAS VEGAS — Philadelphia 76ers rookie Labaron Philon Jr. has proven to be a wizard with the basketball in his hands. He has such a tight handle, is quick getting into the paint, and has shown an ability to really run things from the point guard spot thus far in summer league.Everybody has an influence on their game growing up. Players watch highlights of the players before them and what they’ve been able to do for the game and Philon is no different. In fact, when asked who influenced his tight handle and what he can bring to the table, he singled out a couple of elite ball-handlers, including one from the early 2000s.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement”I like Jason Williams,” Philon explained. “Just like the way he moves with the ball. The way he can skate with the ball, and just like freestyle a little bit. I feel like once we get on into the regular season, just being able to make one move and go. I feel like that’ll be important for me with better defenders and stronger guys. So, I feel like just being able to have that creativity is important, especially for a young guard.”Williams is considered one of the better ball-handlers in the history of the game as he perfected wild dribble moves and elbow passes to create open shots for his teammates. Philon has a long way to go before reaching that point, but he has been able to find ways to get his teammates open looks. Another influence for him has been Kyrie Irving.”I don’t really see a lot of young guards with that kind of creativity, but you know, a lot of Kyrie Irving and stuff like that,” Philon finished. “Just that backyard type basketball and those handles just come natural. So, being able to showcase that as a young player is important.”This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: Sixers rookie singles out 2 elite ball-handlers as big influences
