Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey has improved in a number of different ways throughout his NBA career. The No. 20 pick of the 2020 draft has been able to establish himself as a legitimate star in this league as he has been named an All-Star twice, was named to the All-NBA Third Team in 2026, and averaged 28.3 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.1 rebounds on the season.Maxey has taken steps forward in his leadership, his overall offensive game, and as a defender. As he continues to grow as a player, the now 7-year guard will be looking to take another step forward and he uses specific parts of his game as motivation for himself. In a interview with HoopsHype, Maxey stated:I think the biggest things that I wanted to prove was my leadership, my playmaking abilities, and my defense. I think I’m good defensively and I can cause a lot of havoc, make a lot of disruptions. I’m able to block shots, get steals, and do those type of things, and hold my own one-on-one. And then just my leadership qualities. I’ve been trying to become a better leader every single day, try to encourage my teammates, and then playmaking, getting into the paint. I’ve done a really good job of drawing a lot of attention these last couple years, and now it’s just about getting to the paint, creating plays for everybody, creating shots for everybody.Maxey will look to continue to be a leader in the 2026-27 season. While Philadelphia was able to add superstars such as Jaylen Brown and LeBron James, this is still Maxey’s team to lead. This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: Sixers’ Tyrese Maxey opens up on parts of his game that motivates him
