​It seems the Tigers’ trades of Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize have roused strong emotions among fans, but not a lot of serious analysis. Both players will be free agents at the end of the season, and agent Scott Boras’ clients always test free agency and almost always change teams. So Skubal and Mize were as good as gone. To let them walk for nothing but a draft pick would have been borderline malpractice. Instead, the Tigers got a pair of top 100-rated prospects, and a couple more promising pitching prospects. Keith Law, a former scout who follows this stuff more closely than any fan, gave Scott Harris solid marks for the trades. When it comes to longevity as a Tigers fan, I probably can top the other commenters. I remember when a high school kid named Willie Horton hit a home run in Tiger Stadium in a high school championship game.
