South Carolina’s persistence pays off with 4-star OL Nate Carson’s commitment

South Carolina kept one of the state’s top offensive linemen home as four-star Nate Carson, the No. 221 prospect in the Rivals Industry Ranking, committed to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks over Georgia, Clemson, and Colorado. The Irmo, South Carolina native stayed close to home after a recruitment marked by twists and turns. Georgia had late momentum, but South Carolina reclaimed the lead on its final official visit.
That official visit was pivotal, Carson told Rivals, showing him how much the coaches wanted him and helping everything click. He has visited Columbia more than 15 times, and the hometown connection also carried significant weight. It mattered to him because his mom checks in constantly, and being near home would allow her to visit easily and make things simpler. It also felt like home, with many local players he already knew from competing against them, and a coaching staff that made him feel welcome from day one. Being close to home clearly influenced his decision.
South Carolina’s relentless recruiting finally separated the Gamecocks from other programs. Carson said Beamer pursued him aggressively from his freshman year, and there was never a moment when he didn’t feel Carolina’s interest. Even as other programs gained momentum, Beamer and the staff stayed consistent, never speaking ill of other schools while continuing to recruit him and ensuring he felt wanted. Carson cited Beamer’s energy and his promise to help him succeed as decisive factors, stating he trusts Beamer to guide him.
The four-star lineman believes South Carolina is close to national contention, noting that Beamer can elevate the program to playoff status. They’ve been near the national conversation, and Carson wants to help push them over the edge. The Vols led early, Alabama drew his attention last year, and Georgia surged this spring, but in the end, home won out. “It’s home,” he said. “It’s right in my backyard. The development from the offensive line coaches and the overall environment at South Carolina made the difference.”
The Gamecocks have prioritized keeping South Carolina’s top talent at home, and Carson’s decision marks another significant win in that effort.
