Southern Miss baseball landed Toledo outfielder Cade Baker on June 10, marking its third transfer addition since the season ended.
Baker entered the transfer portal on May 26.
The right fielder spent one season with Toledo, joining the Rockets after spending two years with Alvin College, a junior college in Texas. Baker finished the season with a .312 batting average, totaling 49 RBIs and eight home runs on 79 hits. He also stole 18 bases on 21 attempts. As a team in 2026, Southern Miss stole 21 bases.

Baker’s best game with Toledo came against Youngstown State on April 21 when he hit two home runs and drove in five runs.
In 2025 with Alvin College, Baker hit .335 with seven home runs.
Ben Higdon, who started in right field for Southern Miss in 2026, is out of eligibility. Baker not only swings the bat well, but he also was a reliable defender in right field for the Rockets.
Baker joins former Grand Canyon first baseman Cannon Peery and former Pearl River pitcher Drew Harrison in Southern Miss’ transfer portal class.
Four players from this season have announced their intentions to transfer: McCarty English, Brooks Willoughby, Jake Neely and Camden Rodgers.
