Stage 9: Shorter the Stage, Bigger the Show for Pogacar

By admin — In News — July 13, 2026

The day immediately preceding the Tour’s first rest day proved to be an extraordinarily charged rollercoaster. As the overall leader, Tadej Pogacar wielded influence over who could join the breakaway and who would be left behind, while the exhausted peloton seemed eager for the day to end. The stifling heat matched the swift tempo of both the breakaway and the chasing pack, making every rider eager to wrap the ordeal up as early as possible. From Malemort to Ussel, the terrain of the hills appeared tame in comparison to the relentless intensity of the competitors.
At one pivotal moment, Tom Pidcock’s gears failed within the breakaway. After a few rapid adjustments, the problem was resolved, and he rejoined the leaders without missing a beat. The final breakaway featured a star-studded lineup, including Mathieu Van Der Poel, Tobias Johannessen, Tom Pidcock, and Alex Baudin, while the peloton chased relentlessly throughout the day. So aggressive was the effort from the main contenders that the group of leaders still finished just six seconds behind the day’s stage winner.
As the riders neared the final corner, there wasn’t a soul bold enough to challenge MVDP. True to form, he not only controlled his breakaway companions but also managed to hold off the peloton as Fillipo Ganna methodically pulled the others back. The day’s proceedings underscored the sheer drama of the Tour, with every rider on edge and every move watched intently.
Chapter one of this Tour has been nothing short of thrilling. Is the overall crown already decided, or will the rest day unleash surprising reserves of strength in the riders? Stage 10 will reveal the answers. Until then, fans can savor the drama and anticipation that have defined this opening phase of the race.
