One of the shining parts of this roster so far in preseason has been QB Jalon Daniels. He did really well in Week 1 and led the team to this win in Week 2. Also, first-round pick Rueben Bain Jr. had a good game and completely dominated the opposing RT on one play. In addition, since last week’s state of the NFC South, DT Vita Vea was signed to a contract extension, although only for 1 year. The DT should be staying in Tampa Bay, but if the year goes wrong, that could change. Carolina PanthersUnlike last week, when the Panthers lost by two scores to the Buffalo Bills, Carolina got the win this time. Battling with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina’s QBs, consisting of Kenny Pickett, Bryce Young, and Kyle Trask, had a pretty good day. Pickett was the main QB for the game, finishing with 137 yards and 1 touchdown. Next game, the Panthers will be playing the Houston Texans in their fourth and final preseason matchup. The starters did play a bit in their third preseason game, but maybe they will play more in the final game. Atlanta FalconsOut of all the NFC South teams this week, the Falcons had the most success. They beat the Indianapolis Colts by 28 points, and QB Jack Strand looked really good. The rookie, who is a UDFA, has been an impressive part of Atlanta’s preseason and may legitimately be a dark horse QB moving forward. Michael Penix is beginning to ramp up back to being able to play, and Tua Tagovailoa is ready to play again, so the final preseason game should feature these two battling against each other. New Orleans SaintsAnd now we have the Saints. Instead of getting a win, the Saints were shut out 34-0 by the Rams. It was one of those performances that are hard to forget, even if you try. Of course, it’s just preseason, but it was ugly. It was even worse because of the injuries and the fact that little information was gained in position battles.QB Zach Wilson and Spencer Rattler both struggled and will not have a major game in front of them in Week 3. The backup job is wide open, to the point that if both of these two have bad performances again, the Saints could be making another addition to the QB room. Kellen Moore and the staff have already not wasted time bringing in new players and reinforcements, but maybe the work needs to continue.
