Steelers roster spotlight: Could Roman Wilson be a trade candidate?

By admin — In News — July 14, 2026

Roman Wilson has been one of the biggest what-ifs over the past two seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers. While there’s hope for a Year 3 breakout, is a trade more realistic? From now until the start of the regular season, we at Steelers Wire will be analyzing every player on the roster. Here’s a look at Wilson and what could be in store for his 2026 season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHeight: 5-foot-10Weight: 186 poundsAge: 25 years oldNFL experience: 31 / 18Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 13, vs. Atlanta Falcons, 1:00 p.m. ET(Brett Davis, Brett Davis-Imagn Images)Wilson was drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but he hasn’t really lived up to the expectations most fans have for Pittsburgh’s mid-to-late-round receivers. Through 14 games, Wilson has recorded just 12 catches for 166 yards and two touchdowns. He also finished the 2025 regular season as a healthy inactive in five of the Steelers’ final six games. At this point, it almost feels like Wilson is one veteran receiver signing away from being a trade candidate. The talent is there, but he just hasn’t been able to carve out a bigger role on offense. In 2024, it was believed to be Mike Tomlin’s decision to hold him back. In 2025, some argued it was Rodgers’ trust in the receiver. But even after Wilson’s inclusion during Rodgers’ bonding week, he faces stiff competition from Germie Bernard for the WR3 role. If Wilson isn’t seeing much game-time action by the 2026 trade deadline, it feels like Pittsburgh will have no choice but to cut its losses and acquire some draft capital in the process.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFor up-to-date Steelers coverage, including any offseason moves, follow us on X @TheSteelersWire and give our Facebook page a like. This article originally appeared on Steelers Wire: Steelers roster spotlight: Could Roman Wilson be a trade candidate?
