Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Eli Heidenreich, AKA Christian McCaffrey 2.0, AKA Captain America, is one of the most exciting draft picks in recent memory. But he could unfortunately fall victim to final roster cuts before the regular season. From now until the start of the regular season, we at Steelers Wire will be analyzing every player on the roster. Here’s a look at Heidenreich and what could be in store for his 2026 season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHeight: 6-footWeight: 198 poundsAge: 22 years oldNFL experience: Rookie1 / 18Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 13, vs. Atlanta Falcons, 1:00 p.m. ET(Brett Davis, Brett Davis-Imagn Images)Heidenreich, a Pittsburgh native, was drafted by the Steelers in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft. A Navy Midshipman from 2022-2025, Heidenreich possesses tremendous versatility as both a running back and a receiver, which is more than valuable for Pittsburgh’s Mike McCarthy-led offense. But it may be difficult to earn a spot in a loaded running back room. While Heidenreich is clearly a fan-favorite rookie and has tremendous upside, some believe he could be on the roster bubble when final cuts are due. If the Steelers opt to keep only three running backs, Jaylen Warren, Rico Dowdle, and Kaleb Johnson would be almost guaranteed spots over Heidenreich. There is a chance, however, that Heidenreich’s playmaking ability and impressive versatility earn him a roster spot, and potentially a shot at a starting role in the distant future.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFor up-to-date Steelers coverage, including any offseason moves, follow us on X @TheSteelersWire and give our Facebook page a like. This article originally appeared on Steelers Wire: Steelers roster spotlight: Is Eli Heidenreich at risk of being cut?
