The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday while managing a depleted wide receiver corps. Wide receivers Michael Pittman Jr., Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek will miss the upcoming game, opening opportunities for younger players to take on larger roles. The team’s game plan against Tampa Bay is expected to rely on a heavy workload for running back Jaylen Warren alongside involvement from the tight ends. Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy said he likes the group of young players who are stepping into elevated positions on offense.Rookie wide receiver Germie Bernard is expected to continue seeing an elevated role in the offense. Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers praised the rookie’s maturity and development following last week’s performance.“Just not making repeat mistakes,” Rodgers said. “And he has the most important thing for young players to just not make those same mistakes he made. And I don’t feel like he’s been doing that. Even getting better, he asks the right questions. I think he’s becoming a little bit more prepared and dialed in. This is confidence. When a young player starts playing with confidence, you see the potential of a player. And I thought last week was a good step in the right direction for him.”Rodgers also uses pop quizzes during offensive meeting rooms to keep younger players prepared. He noted the quizzes help ensure players watch film and thoroughly understand the weekly game plan.
