The Indiana Fever earned their 24th win of the season against the Toronto Tempo on Aug. 18 with guard Kelsey Mitchell exiting the game due to overheating. Indiana defeated Toronto 101-95, but the win was overshadowed by Mitchell sitting out the fourth quarter. She scored 29 points on 11 of 16 shooting from the field and tied the WNBA record for most consecutive 20+ point games. The Ohio State product finished with more than 20 points for the 20th straight contest. With the regular season winding down, there should be no concern about Mitchell, according to head coach Stephanie White. White Gives Update After Mitchell Exits Fever WinAccording to Tony East, the Fever guard has no major concerns. “Seems like she just got overheated,” White said. “It was the second-straight hot game environment for the Fever,” White added. Mitchell was drafted to the Fever with the second pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft. She has played all nine seasons with the franchise. Since being drafted, the franchise has only made the postseason twice, in 2024 and 2025. Indiana is on track to reach the postseason for the third consecutive season. The 5-foot-8 guard is averaging 24.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists while shooting 44.3% from three-point range. Mitchell is shooting a career-high 50.7% from the field and has played in all 36 games for the Fever this season. Fever Remains in the HeadlinesThroughout the season, Indiana has faced off-court issues but has remained focused on the season. During the Aug. 16 contest between the Atlanta Dream and Indiana Fever, women were reportedly asked to cover their shirts because of messages on them. The WNBA stated that fans should not have been asked to cover their shirts, according to the Associated Press. This followed guard Sophie Cunningham’s comments on transgender athletes this season. Fever head coach White spoke up after the controversial foul from forward Alyssa Thomas on guard Caitlin Clark earlier in the season. White also commented on the foul committed by Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington on Cunningham on Aug. 8. Clark has also been the subject of political conversation as NBA commissioner Adam Silver called her a “political football.” Despite the adversity that Indiana has experienced this season, they are trending upward. Indiana is 24-12 on the season and is third in league standings after defeating the Toronto Tempo on Aug. 19. The Fever will face the Dallas Wings next on Aug. 20 at 8 p.m. ET on Prime Video. Mitchell was listed as probable on the injury report ahead of that matchup.
