Still in contract dispute, Jacoby Brissett works out with teammates in South Florida

Quarterback Jacoby Brissett remains in a contract dispute with the Arizona Cardinals, yet the feuds over deals hasn’t kept him from gearing up to be the team’s starter this week. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Brissett brought several teammates to South Florida this week to train and prepare for training camp, signaling his commitment to readying himself for the upcoming season despite the ongoing contract discussions.
Brissett shared a post on social media featuring himself alongside Marvin Harrison Jr., Trey McBride, Elijah Higgins, Kedon Slovis, and Semi Fehoko after a workout session. The photo underscores Brissett’s active preparation and his effort to build chemistry with key teammates ahead of the Cardinals’ installation of a new offense.
Although Brissett did not attend the voluntary portion of the offseason program, he did participate in the team’s mandatory minicamp last month, choosing not to take part in practices during that session. The Cardinals are implementing a fresh offensive scheme under head coach Mike LaFleur, who arrived after spending the previous three seasons as the Rams’ offensive coordinator. LaFleur has emphasized his approach to building a cohesive unit and tailoring the playbook to Brissett’s strengths as he transitions into this new system.
Financially, Brissett is slated to earn $4.88 million in 2026, with a maximum value of $5.39 million. However, only $1.5 million of that is guaranteed. In the offseason, LaFleur indicated he wasn’t worried about Brissett’s absence from the voluntary program, noting that the quarterback has “done probably everything we’ve ever done schematically.” Such statements suggest that LaFleur sees Brissett as a capable fit within the new offense and believes his game knowledge and experience will translate well to the Cardinals’ plans.
As trainers, coaches, and front-office personnel prepare for the upcoming season, the Cardinals’ veteran players are expected to report for training camp on July 22. The team aims to build a competitive roster around Brissett as the quarterback position remains a focal point of the organization’s plans. The ongoing contract discussions will continue to unfold alongside the on-field work, but Brissett’s early efforts to get reps with teammates highlight his intent to lead the Cardinals and establish himself as the Week 1 starter as the team moves forward with its new offensive direction.
