In honor of James Harden’s Smiling Moose Sandwich Grill opening Monday, Aug. 17, we sent a few questions to the former Arizona State basketball star who carved out a stellar NBA career. The restaurant at 2765 N. Scottsdale Road, Unit 103 in Scottsdale, has a “signature menu and Rocky Mountain Outdoor enthusiast inspired hospitality,” and Harden is part of the ownership group. Here are three big questions, with Harden’s answers via email to The Arizona Republic.Question: What were your go-to quick sandwiches while you were a student at ASU and what do you remember most about your favorite things to do in your free time? Answer: In my free time, we would go to the rec and hoop with some of the students. Those were some of my best memories at ASU. You had to be there! I love a good club sandwich. What is your favorite menu item from the Smiling Moose list?”The Mo” is a fan favorite for a reason. I love it because it’s like a Philly Cheesesteak but with ground sirloin.  Plus, our toasted bread makes the sandwich come together.Explain your current mindset for the remainder of your NBA career? My current mindset is to win a championship. It’s arguably the hardest thing to do in basketball. The news release features Harden’s words.“Today marks not just a new chapter for this community, but a new chapter for my life,” he said. “I am excited to be a part of the team bringing Smiling Moose to Scottsdale. This has been my home for many years, and it makes sense to have roots in the place that gave me my start.  We’re committed to providing quality ingredients, quick service and a welcoming space for everyone.” The menu includes sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, burgers and freshly baked cookies. The Original Mo has been a fan favorite from Day 1. It’s a hot sandwich with sizzling grilled meat, melted cheese, crisp veggies and a tangy vinaigrette on a fresh baked baguette.  The local ownership group includes Harden, Troy Payne, Nico Fricchione, Patrick Fricchione, Brian Padilla, Carlos Munoz and George Gundrey. This article originally appeared on Arizona Republic: Sun Devils icon James Harden talks ‘Smiling Moose,’ ASU, NBA
