The Phoenix Suns are holding their collective breath in regards to where NBA legend LeBron James decides to continue his career, as the four-time MVP is now reportedly down to five teams after departing the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason. There are two teams from the Western Conference that James is still considering (Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves) – with longtime rival and current Suns star Dillon Brooks predicting that one of those two franchises will land the prized free agent.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementJames opting to sign with the Warriors (as Brooks predicts) would send shockwaves throughout the NBA world, as Shams Charania previously indicated that this pairing would only become possible if Golden State management could pull off a trade involving Anthony Davis. Now, it seems possible that Golden State lands James without making a move for Davis, which clearly holds implications that directly impact the Suns in the short-term.The clearest implication is that the Warriors’ roster will instantly be fortified by an all-star caliber player – James teaming up with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green would gift Phoenix’s rivals their best roster on paper since their NBA title season in 2021-22. This isn’t even accounting for the built-in addition of Jimmy Butler (ACL) at some point during the season, as well as reinforcements in the youth department in Brandin Podziemski and rookie Yaxel Lendeborg. The Warriors are also coached by one of the most battle-tested minds in the game (Steve Kerr), who will continue to serve as one of the most stringent challenges for Suns head coach Jordan Ott.The Warriors’ construction may prove to be an immediate foil to the Suns’ efforts to return to the playoffs, as the two teams matched up in April for the final playoff spot in the West. The addition of James would presumably boost Golden State enough to return to a winning record over 82 games, while many are projecting the Suns to take a slight tumble in the standings due to a myriad of factors.Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of this possibility becoming a reality is monitoring how the rivalry manages to develop over the next year or two – the Brooks/James dynamic, Green’s continued antics, and the potential for Booker/Curry to go off on tangents at any given moment will only add to the anticipation when the two teams square off during the upcoming regular season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementUntil then, the Suns are set to formally introduce Miles Bridges to the organization on Tuesday, July 21.Join The SunsRoundtableHead over to the SunsRoundtable page and hit the “Join” button under the featured story… it’s completely FREE!
