Surrey and Gloucestershire advanced to the T20 Blast quarter-finals on the penultimate night of the group stages. Surrey joined Hampshire Hawks in the South Group after a nine-wicket destruction of Kent at Canterbury, a result that sealed their progress. In the Central and West Group, Gloucestershire pulled off a sensational two-wicket victory over Worcestershire Rapids, propelled by Kamran Dhariwal’s blistering 70 off just 22 balls.
Yorkshire had hoped to secure a Northern Group spot behind Notts Outlaws but slipped to a 22-run defeat in the Roses clash, allowing Lancashire to keep their knockout dream alive. The defending champions Somerset, along with Essex and Durham, all won to maintain their ambitions of reaching the Wednesday quarter-finals.
Yorkshire started eight points ahead of Lancashire in second place but endured a difficult night across the Pennines. In their innings, Liam Livingstone struck four sixes on his way to 60, complemented by overseas contributions from Ben McDermott (46) and Shadab Khan (38), helping Lancashire to a robust 216-6. A superb early burst from Mitch Stanley, finishing with 4-30, crippled Yorkshire’s chase as they collapsed to 47-5, with Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali all dismissed cheaply. Matt Revis then hammered a brutal 52, but Yorkshire never looked close to chasing the target, ultimately finishing at 194-8. Despite the setback, their overall run rate remained higher than Lancashire’s, offering a buffer should the two teams finish level on points.
In the North Group, Notts Outlaws extended their winning run to eight matches with a six-wicket victory over bottom side Leicestershire Foxes, a result that secures a home quarter-final for Notts. Leicestershire’s innings began with Stephen Eskinazi anchoring proceedings for Notts, but the Foxes’ total stalled at 143-7 after a cautious start from Ben Green, who reached 21, while other contributors struggled to pass 20. Notts chased steadily, slipping to 59-3, but Tom Moores finished the job with 51 not out, sealing victory with a lofted six off Josh Hull as Leicestershire’s slide continued.
Durham emerged from a tense finish at Chester-le-Street, defeating Derbyshire Falcons by five runs to stay in the hunt. Colin Ackermann’s 69 not out formed the backbone of Durham’s 165-7, and as Derbyshire faltered at 104-5, including two wickets for Brydon Carse, the hosts moved toward victory. Harry Came and Ross Whiteley combined for 56 before Whiteley fell on the penultimate ball of the final over to Ben Raine, and with Nick Potts failing to hit a single six, Durham earned the four points as Derbyshire finished on 160-6.
