Though it wasn’t a bad performance overall, UConn still heads home with a sour taste after a game it could have won.Thoughts as UConn falls to 2-2 with Syracuse visiting the Rent this Saturday:Missed Opportunities LateWith the game tied at 21 in the fourth quarter, UConn had the ball after forcing a three-and-out. A sack on first down set the back, and on 3rd & 10, Kalieb Osborne threw an interception on an errant throw, giving the home team the ball in enemy territory. This helped them put up a field goal that ended up being the game-winning points.The Huskies had one more chance down three to tie the game or take the lead, but again a penalty sent them back and the drive stalled. Their inability to respond after losing the lead is concerning.Ultimately, allowing Miami to storm back into this and then hold on even after the RedHawks’ starting QB David McComb left with an injury makes this a disappointing outcome. The team stayed in the battle, but really fell flat after such a strong start through the first seven minutes.Inexperienced SecondaryAfter a quiet start, McComb began connecting deep in the second and third quarter, eclipsing 300 passing yards in the fourth quarter before his leg injury. Some of his receivers made some big plays, including an amazing one-handed grab by a tight end, and UConn also conceded a defensive pass interference call that led to the equalizing touchdown.In total, seven defensive backs took the field and recorded at least one tackle. Of the seven players, six had hardly played a full game before coming to UConn and earning a starting role. This is going to be an area that opponents will continue to attack.Cyncir Bowers Coming ThroughFor the second consecutive week, Bowers led the running backs in yards, while Osborne was the team’s leading rusher. Week after week, it is clear that the powerful runner is getting more comfortable and finding the hole more easily. The Huskies allowed three QB hurries and two sacks. Of their six penalties for 60 yards, false starts and holding on the line were three of them.
