​The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ first training camp practice took place on Wednesday, and already there are several interesting developments and quotes to digest.The Bucs are being forced to navigate not just one, but two, contract-related distractions as camp kicked off. How they handle the fallout from quarterback Baker Mayfield ending extension talks after no deal was reached before camp and whether Tampa decides to trade star defensive tackle Vita Vea, who requested a trade Monday after also not agreeing to a new contract, will have a massive effect on the upcoming season.Tampa also added a talented veteran to its secondary. The team signed safety Ifeatu Melifonwu, who spent last season with the Miami Dolphins. He was a third-round pick in 2021 by the Detroit Lions. Melifonwu has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career, but has shown he can be a very impactful player when he is on the field.But once practice began Wednesday, all eyes were focused on the field.
