Real Madrid are prepared to sell Aurélien Tchouameni this summer for around £77million, with Manchester United among the clubs tracking the French midfielder. The move would place one of Europe’s most sought-after holding midfielders in a market United have been pursuing all window, and at a price that, while sizable, could be viewed as a discount on the €100m package Madrid paid Monaco three years ago. It is noteworthy that Madrid are even entertaining the idea of parting with Tchouameni, who arrived in 2022 as the long-term Casemiro successor and chose the Bernabéu over Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain—a signal of his ambition and Madrid’s clout. The possibility of cashing in while Tchouameni is only 25 and under contract until 2028 suggests that competition for places from Eduardo Camavinga and Fede Valverde has altered the internal balance.
The figure of £77m sits at the lower end of Madrid’s public expectations. TalkSPORT has indicated Madrid would seek over £70m, while Spanish sources have consistently pointed to a threshold closer to €90–€100m (around £87m at current exchange rates) for serious engagement. Independent market valuations place Tchouameni’s value in roughly €60–€76m, meaning Madrid’s asking price already includes a premium, and £77m could represent an opening stance rather than a final figure. By way of comparison, the original deal—€80m upfront with up to €20m in add-ons—made Tchouameni the fourth most expensive signing in Real Madrid’s history at the time, behind Bale, Ronaldo, and Hazard. Getting close to that base fee after three seasons, while he remains in his mid-twenties, would be sensible business for Madrid and helps explain why discussions are taking place.
The United angle centers on a midfield rebuild that still needs a definitive anchor. A defensive, physically imposing No. 6 who can shield the backline and contribute in possession fits a profile United have been lacking since Casemiro’s decline accelerated. His occasional use as a centre-back adds tactical flexibility that would appeal to a United coaching staff managing multiple positional cover. With Éderson’s move to Old Trafford nearly certain, United are pursuing a strategic addition that would solidify their midfield architecture.
