This coming week, the captain serves as host when the PGA Tour Champions returns to Palm Coast 18 years after a previous two-year stay. The Constellation Furyk & Friends, in its sixth year as a stop on the Tour’s 50-and-over circuit, has moved to the Hammock Beach Resort after its first five years in Jacksonville. After a few days of practice rounds and pro-ams, the 54-hole tournament — co-hosted by former PGA Tour star Jim Furyk and his wife, Tabitha — begins its three days of play Friday morning on the Jack Nicklaus-designed Ocean Course.  The previous five tournaments were played at Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, near the Furyks’ Ponte Vedra Beach home. Timuquana sits alongside the St. Johns River, but it was a bigger body of water that first got Jim Furyk’s attention when exploring Hammock Beach as a potential new tournament site.He walked out of the clubhouse, saw the 18th green, then looked to his right, where the Atlantic Ocean is rather hard to ignore.“I looked out and said, ‘Oh my goodness,’” Furyk said when announcing the relocation. “We know we’re in the right spot.“They reached out to us about the possibility of hosting the event. I was blown away by the facility and by how excited they were.”Furyk, who will captain the 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup team for the second time, counts the 2003 U.S. Open among his 17 PGA Tour victories. After turning 50, he won three senior tournaments in short order, including the 2020 U.S. Senior Open. A back injury, and eventual hip replacement, has all but ended his playing career over the past few years. Serving as a tournament host, however, keeps him busy in other ways, including as liaison with sponsors who have helped the event contribute a reported $5.45 million to various local charities through its first five years.Constellation Furyk & Friends presented by Circle KWhen: Oct. 9-11 (Friday through Sunday).Where: The Ocean Course at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast. The field: 78 players.Money: Total prize purse of $2.2 million, with $330,000 to the winner.Schedule: Gates open at 10:30 each morning, with play expected to start at 11 a.m. Friday’s round will be followed by a Billy Currington concert on the resort grounds, starting at or about 7 p.m.Tickets: Friday tickets, which include the concert, are $50, while Saturday and Sunday passes are $25 each day.Free: 17-and-under with paying adult; active military and veterans with I.D.Parking: Free shuttle service will run from public parking at Daytona State College’s Palm Coast campus: 3000 Palm Coast Parkway SE.More info:ConstellationFurykAndFriends.com.Former Furyk & Friends winnersPast winners of the Furyk & Friends, all played in Jacksonville at Timuquana Country Club:2025: Tommy Gainey2024: Rocco Mediate2023: Brett Quigley2022: Steve Stricker2021: Phil MickelsonThis year on PGA Tour ChampionsLeading money winners:Stewart Cink, $3.66 millionZach Johnson, $3.29 millionSteven Alker, $1.9 millionPadr
