​Girls high school volleyball doesn’t start for another week.But The Providence Journal is ahead of the game. Using last year’s All-State teams, we have a handful of volleyball stars up for preseason bragging rights. It’s up to the fans to decide who they think will be a standout player in girls volleyball this year.Voting must be done via the ballot below, email submissions will not be accepted. The poll closes Sunday night, Aug. 16, at midnight.The first day of practice is on Monday, Aug. 17 and, of course, we’ll learn more as the season progresses, but North Kingstown is the way-too-early team to beat. The Skippers have won four straight titles and return The Journal’s player of the year in Kayleigh Garrepy.The senior is one of our five players listed below, read on to see who else is on the ballot! And be on the lookout for more high school sports content over the following weeks. Injury fund matches are on Aug. 27 with the season starting in earnest on Aug. 31.Gabriella Andrade, ProutAndrade steered Prout to the Division I playoffs as a second-team selection at Libero last year. She led the Crusaders with 134 digs over 49 sets while also adding 13 aces. Andrade might have an early edge on the state as the top defensive specialist.Darryl Ashilaka, CumberlandAshilaka had high expectations leading into her sophomore season and she lived up to them as a second-team selection. Cumberland reached the Final Four in D-II behind its outside hitter. Ashilaka finished with 4.2 kills per set (288 total) with 46 aces for the Clippers.Adrian Brzoza, La SalleLa Salle competed well against East Providence in the D-I semifinals but couldn’t pull off the upset. Brzoza, a middle hitter last year, still earned first-team honors despite the loss. The senior should be set for a big season in Providence.Kayleigh Garrepy, North KingstownGarrepy put on a showcase in North Kingstown’s 3-1 victory over East Providence in the championship match. She’s been a regular on the Journal’s All-State teams since her freshman season and that didn’t change last fall. She managed 261 kills and 31 blocks in another standout year.Tayla Schneider, North KingstownSchneider had the big responsibility of keeping the Skippers’ offense going last year. And she did it perfectly in her first season as a setter. The senior was also an All-State selection in indoor and outdoor track and field.
