Tennessee signee Cody Boshell goes in 11th round of MLB draft by Diamondbacks

Tennessee baseball signee Cody Boshell was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 11th round of the 2026 MLB Draft, with the No. 326 overall pick announced on July 12. Boshell, a St. Johns, Florida native, was listed by ESPN as the No. 142 prospect entering the draft. He is listed primarily as a first baseman and left-handed pitcher, though the Diamondbacks drafted him as a first baseman. He was the fifth Tennessee signee to be chosen in this year’s draft. Two-way prospect Jared Grindlinger was taken No. 12 overall by the Los Angeles Angels, outfielder Trevor Condon went No. 13 overall to the St. Louis Cardinals, pitcher Kaiden McCarthy was selected No. 48 overall by the Atlanta Braves, and pitcher Tyler Putnam went No. 136 overall to the Colorado Rockies.
Boshell had committed to Tennessee since August 2022 and signed with the Vols in November. During four high school seasons at Bishop Snyder High School, Boshell posted a .318 batting average with 17 home runs and 72 RBIs. On the mound for 156.1 innings, the left-hander recorded a 3.36 ERA and struck out 231 batters. As a multi-sport or multi-position talent, Boshell showed a versatile profile that appealed to college programs as well as professional scouts.
The news comes as part of a broader wave of Vols prospects entering the professional ranks after declaring their intent to pursue baseball at the next level. Boshell’s selection continues Tennessee’s recent track record of producing players who attract MLB interest while maintaining their commitments to collegiate programs. His draft position reflects both his batting approach and his defensive versatility, even as the Diamondbacks elected to place him at first base in their organizational plans.
