​Texas A&M’s No. 1-ranked 2027 class added its 26th commitment when four-star linebacker Mikahi Allen chose the Aggies over Texas and South Carolina, joining five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson, who stands as the highest-rated linebacker commit in program history. With Allen’s addition, A&M’s 2027 cycle is essentially closed, pending any future flips, while head coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff shift their collective attention to the promising 2028 cycle. Among the program’s top targets for 2028 is four-star wide receiver Jaylen Addai, the son of former Indianapolis Colts running back Joseph Addai. Addai is currently ranked Rivals’ No. 11 prospect and has already built a strong relationship with Texas A&M’s head coach Mike Elko, first-year offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins, and the program’s new wide receivers coach John Perry, following an interview with Rivals insider Sam Spiegelman.
Addai highlighted the meaningful connection he’s developed with the Aggies during a visit to College Station this summer, noting how Wiggins’ offensive scheme and how he would be utilized in the new coordinator’s system stood out. The proximity to home also played a role, with Pearland, Texas located just under two hours from Kyle Field. In the 2027 cycle, Texas A&M has secured four wide receiver commitments, led by five-star Erc McFarland, who is viewed as the future slot receiver. Jaden Upshaw and Demani Warren are on board to fill the Z and X receiver roles, respectively.
“It was pretty cool. It was my first time talking to Coach Elko and Perry, building that relationship and really getting into the offense, how they do things, how the coaches and the people there are. Everything was cool,” Addai told Rivals. “I like how they’re always getting their receivers involved from the jump—in the quick game, then taking deep shots downfield and into the end zone. I love the fan base there. They bring the energy and it hypes the players up.”
This is encouraging news early in the recruiting process for one of the top athletes in the cycle, who is also considering Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, and LSU, where his father played. Addai plans to schedule visits with all four blue-blood programs this fall, as he weighs his options and weighs how each program could fit his development and path to the NFL. Getting Addai back to campus remains Elko’s goal, knowing that the game-day atmosphere at Kyle Field has led many former prospects to commit soon after their in-season visits.
