The Falcoholic Reacts: Believe in the stalwart

By admin — In News — July 14, 2026

For all the moving pieces across the Falcons’ offensive line, both from a personnel and coaching standpoint, few things remain certain. Fans trust Jake Matthews to be dependable as one of the better left tackles in the league. He has been performing at a relatively high level for a decade after struggling in his rookie year. Once the former sixth overall pick in the 2014 draft got acclimated, he started to be that anchor every offensive line needs to operate. It is surprising how much belief there is in Matthews compared to the rest of the starters besides Chris Lindstrom. Matthew Bergeron possesses plenty of talent despite not putting it all together yet. Ryan Neuzil exceeded expectations in his first year as a starter, albeit with some issues in pass protection. Jawaan Taylor is coming off multiple difficult seasons in Kansas City, but does have a winning pedigree and thrived in Jacksonville. That didn’t stop most fans from voting for Matthews. At 34 years old, it’s evident Matthews doesn’t have many years left. His persistence in staying healthy and being the consummate professional bodes well for his longevity. As the Falcons rebuild their roster, they could count on the 2018 Pro Bowler for two more seasons. That would be massive not only in addressing other positions but also in providing stability for whoever starts at quarterback. This result is brought to you by FanDuel Sportsbook.
