The Hoddle of Coffee: Tottenham news and links for Friday, July 17

By admin — In News — July 17, 2026

Good morning everyone! Today is a major day for cinemas—and, tangentially, for Spurs fans too. Odyssey is hitting the big screen! This epic film, which runs nearly three hours, follows the legendary Greek hero Odysseus, a Trojan War veteran, on his arduous journey home. Along the way, we’ll meet many familiar figures I encountered in Latin class, including Athena, Agamemnon, Sinon, Poseidon, Polybus, Telemachus, Penelope, and a host of others.
Naturally, a production this grand requires a wide roster of actors, but there’s one name that particularly matters to us: Tom Holland. The Tottenham Hotspur fan takes on the role of Telemachus, Odysseus and Penelope’s son and the prince of Ithaca. Telemachus is a central figure in The Odyssey, and I’m curious how much emphasis the film will place on Holland’s character, especially since the trailer only offered a glimpse of him. Most of us would agree that more Tom Holland is a good thing, and we’re in luck because another Spider-Man film is due out in a few weeks (spoiler alert: Holland plays Spider-Man again).
Your hoddler-in-chief is heading to the cinema tonight to watch The Odyssey and will file a report next week. Fitzie’s track of the day is Freddie Freeloader by Miles Davis.
And now for your links:
BBC: “Some England players disappointed at tactics as Tuchel questions team’s DNA.”
Matt Law: “Tuchel privately rejects claims he told England to hang on against Argentina.”
The Independent: “Jude Bellingham could face FIFA disciplinary action over post-match ‘slap’ on Argentina player.”
