There’s a 93% chance that OKC Thunder, LeBron James have had offseason talks

Nobody does free agency quite like LeBron James. From announcing his decision in an ESPN special to posting a handwritten letter and vowing multiple NBA championships, to returning home as a hero, the 41-year-old is as theatrical off the court as he is dominant on it. After recently signaling he won’t return to the Los Angeles Lakers but will continue his storied career elsewhere, James has become the pinball of this summer’s free-agent chatter. Yes, the 22-time All-Star isn’t at his peak anymore, but last season showed he can still contribute to a title contender. And if the rumors are true, James is aiming to chase a championship with his next team—salary or role be damned. A handful of franchises stand out as the most plausible fits: the Golden State Warriors with Stephen Curry would be must-see television; a return to the Cleveland Cavaliers would be a fairy-tale narrative; and teaming up with Giannis Antetokounmpo on the Miami Heat would be another blockbuster scenario. We’ll see how the biggest offseason saga unfolds. With the NBA largely completing its major moves before July 4, the rest of the summer should center on who James signs with for a record 24th season in the league. Adding to the intrigue, Max Kellerman and Rich Paul broke down James’ options on a whiteboard in the latest episode of their Game Over podcast, underscoring Paul’s central role in James’s business ventures through Klutch Sports. Paul noted that most teams have reached out to gauge how James might fit, with 27 of 29 teams—93.1 percent of the league—expressing interest. Only the Lakers have declined to participate. “I’ve heard from every organization except maybe two,” Paul said. While you can spin theories about which two teams haven’t reached out, there’s a nonzero chance the Oklahoma City Thunder could be in the mix, given the sheer numbers involved. James joining OKC would be a historic moment for the franchise and the state, turning him into a walking billion-dollar brand and giving the Thunder a likely All-Star presence from last season, even if the fit isn’t flawless. Of course, this is largely speculative—a topic that might fill a segment on local sports radio during the quiet period. Kellerman and Paul outlined a circle of teams with real shot at landing James. According to Paul’s whiteboard, the Philadelphia 76ers, Heat, Timberwolves, and Nuggets are among those considered legitimate contenders.
