Thomas Annunziata hospitalized after NASCAR Truck fire

Thomas Annunziata enjoyed a dominant ARCA Menards Series victory Friday at Lime Rock Park, capturing a commanding win by nearly ten seconds after leading 59 of 68 laps. The 21-year-old’s fine form at Lime Rock contrasted sharply with a challenging Saturday in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, where expectations of a weekend sweep were high but not realized.
In the Truck Series race, Annunziata qualified fourth, marking only his second start in the Truck Series. He had previously competed in this same event a year earlier, finishing 15th, but this time he looked capable of something even bigger. He spent most of the race inside the top five, maintaining competitive pace as the field battled for position. A restart melee damaged the right side of his truck’s door, forcing him to endure a difficult setback. Yet he refused to quit, gripping the wheel as late-race chaos unfolded and finding himself in second place with a little more than 20 laps remaining.
Tragically, that resurgence was cut short under caution when his No. 1 TRICON Garage Toyota suddenly erupted into flames from the front of the vehicle. Annunziata stopped quickly, exiting the truck on his own and avoiding assistance as flames enveloped the front end. He finished 29th, but the ordeal didn’t end there, as he appeared to need a moment to gather himself and spent time speaking with safety personnel.
After being evaluated at the infield care center, Annunziata was transported to a local hospital for further assessment. The team provided a brief statement indicating that he is “awake and alert,” but no additional updates have been released at this time. The news cast a somber note on what began as a dream weekend for the rising star, who nonetheless leaves Lime Rock Park second in the ARCA championship standings, just eight points behind the leader.
Grant Enfinger ultimately took the Truck race victory, ending a 40-race winless stretch for the CR7 Motorsports driver. The Lime Rock event delivered a dramatic narrative: a runaway ARCA triumph for Annunziata on Friday, followed by a heartbreaking yet hopeful Sunday in the truck series, highlighting the volatility and excitement of these high-stakes short-track races.
