Throwback: Grading the Saints’ 2025 Draft Class

By admin — In News — July 4, 2026

The New Orleans Saints’ 2025 draft class has been received positively, with several rookies making notable impacts and a promising outlook for the future. But how strong was it really? It’s time to revisit each selection after its first year and assign grades that reflect both last season’s performance and anticipated roles for 2026. For instance, Vernon Broughton missed the entire year due to injury, but his expected bounce-back in 2026 should be reflected in his grade. With that in mind, here are the Saints’ 2025 NFL Draft grades.
1:9 Kelvin Banks
Adding Kelvin Banks at pick nine wasn’t flashy, but it paid dividends. He started all 17 games at left tackle and allowed only five sacks. While not perfect, Banks has proven he’s the future blindside protector and will form a reliable tandem with Taliese Fuaga for the foreseeable future. Grade: B+
2:40 Tyler Shough
This selection drew some criticism, yet it couldn’t have gone any better for the Saints. In nine starts, Shough led the team to a 5-4 record and shifted the fanbase’s outlook from pessimism to optimism about the team’s future. It’s too early to declare him the franchise quarterback, but his early impact is undeniable. Grade: A
3:71 Vernon Broughton
Fans haven’t seen much of Vernon Broughton due to a season-ending injury in his first game. Consequently, there’s limited data on this pick. The 2026 season will be crucial for Broughton as he seeks a role in a crowded Saints defensive line. It’s premature to grade this negatively, but more information is needed. Grade: C-
3:93 Jonas Sanker
Jonas Sanker stepped up after starter Julian Blackmon went down in Week 1, taking on a larger role than expected and thriving. Now moving to the STAR position, Sanker is positioned to be a key defender for Brandon Staley’s unit. The future looks bright for this young safety. Grade: A-
4:112 Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman demonstrated run-stopping ability in his rookie year, though limited pass coverage snaps were a factor in his development. He’s positioned for a breakout season as he steps into a larger role, potentially replacing veteran Demario Davis and delivering meaningful minutes this year. Grade: C+
4:131 Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley kept a low profile in his rookie season but contributed late in the year. The cornerback has a strong chance to start opposite Kool-Aid McKinstry in 2026, which could elevate his grade significantly if he delivers. Grade: B-
6:184 Devin Neal
Devin Neal has faced injuries throughout his career, but he appears to be a leading candidate for the third-string running back role. He provided reliable depth when called upon last season and could become a valuable rotation piece if he stays healthy. Grade: C+
