On Tuesday, Timberwolves basketball boss Tim Connelly was asked about the team’s lack of power forwards on the roster after Minnesota traded away both Naz Reid and Julius Randle.Since then, all the Wolves have done to address the position is sign Trey Lyles, who played overseas last season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“So it’s certainly an area we’re going to have to try to be creative,” Connelly said.He noted it will be a “crucial year” for Joan Beringer, the center Minnesota selected in the first round of last year’s NBA Draft. He excelled in his Summer League opener last week before missing a pair of games with lower back tightness. But Beringer slots in more naturally as Rudy Gobert’s backup at the center spot. As currently configured, the Wolves are slated to go smaller.Unless they can ink a power forward still remaining on the market.“There’s a couple free agents still available,” Connelly said. “We’re working with one or two of them right now. We’ll see if that comes to fruition.”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementOne of those is LeBron James. One of the greatest players of all time is reportedly nearing a decision on where he’ll play next season, and Minnesota remains in the mix, though it remains a mystery how significant the Wolves’ chances are.LaMelo Ball laughed off a question asking if he’d called James in an attempt to lure him to Minnesota. Even Connelly admitted he doesn’t know where the Wolves stand in their recruitment efforts. But he laid out the team’s pitch.“The recruitment is just this team. Obviously, (James is) an unbelievable player. Whatever decision he makes is going to be the right one,” Connelly said. “There’s a lot going on. When you’re as great as he is, you should have optionality. When you look at our team, it’s hard not to be excited about what we have. We have the best coach (in Chris Finch). We have amazing fans. In the last couple years, our success has been as good as anybody – outside of the guys who’ve won it all.“Not just speaking to LeBron, but to any free agent, this is a place you’re going to have a lot of fun and win a lot of games. We’re trying to change the narrative of how this organization is viewed. We’re kind of proud of who we are and certainly, wherever LeBron ends up, he’s going to make that place much, much better. But it’s hard not to look at LaMelo and Jaden (McDaniels) and Rudy (Gobert) and Ant and Josh (Green). We saw what T.J. (Terrence Shannon Jr.) did in the postseason. We think Beringer has a chance to be a really special player. We’re extremely excited to get Ayo (Dosunmu) back. That was a pretty competitive market. He had options all over the league. I like who we are and we’re pretty proud of who we are. Hopefully that’s appealing, not just to LeBron, but to any free agent.”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementPerhaps the Wolves’ perception is changing. Just five years ago, Minnesota was
