The Minnesota Timberwolves have recently gotten in on the LeBron James sweepstakes, joining teams such as the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors. They have already made some major changes this offseason, which include trading away three-time All-Star power forward Julius Randle and trading for 2022 All-Star LaMelo Ball.Minnesota now has a strong guard rotation that includes Ball, Anthony Edwards and Ayo Dosunmu. While shot-blocker Rudy Gobert remains at the 5 spot, the team is thin in the frontcourt, and some feel James would make the team an instant contender.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBall was introduced to the media as a member of the Timberwolves on Tuesday, and president of basketball operations Tim Connelly responded to a question about James with what some may interpret as a recruiting pitch, per The Athletic.“I like who we are and we’re pretty proud of who we are,” Connelly said on Tuesday. “Hopefully that’s appealing, not just to LeBron, but to any free agent.”It is anyone’s guess where James will end up going to for this coming NBA season, or when he will make his decision public. Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic wrote that the Timberwolves “have been in regular contact with Rich Paul, James’s agent and close friend, to try to sell them on the idea of teaming up with Ball, Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert to make a run at the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder in the West.”It is thought that the Timberwolves are not one of the front-runners for James’ services, but one can never know until his decision is signed, sealed and delivered.“The recruitment is just this team,” Connelly said. “Obviously, he’s an unbelievable player. Whatever decision he makes is going to be the right one. There’s a lot going on. When you’re as great as he is, you should have optionality. When you look at our team, it’s hard not to be excited about what we have.”With the Los Angeles Lakers this past season, James averaged 20.9 points on 51.5% shooting from the field, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists a game as the team’s third scoring option. With him throttling back and conserving his energy but still asserting himself at the right moments, the Lakers finished fourth in the Western Conference with a 53-29 and upset the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementMinnesota finished sixth at 49-33 and was eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by the San Antonio Spurs. It had reached the Western Conference finals in both of the previous years. This article originally appeared on LeBron Wire: Timberwolves executive on trying to lure LeBron James
